Barcelona Events Calendar

First, and most important — FCBarcelona. Lots of LaLiga, Champions League, Copas & friendlies throughout much of the year. A match is a must-do in our book! Okay, now for the rest…

We admit it, Chatty helped us put this together. We will continue to add events throughout the year, and try to add the more obscure events that happen around Barcelona. But for a pro-tip, just look up at the signs overhead — we’ve found everything from polo & tennis tournaments, to street fairs & exhibitions. Also, if you hear music, wander in that direction. There is almost always people dancing, and whatever is happening is likely to make your day even better.

Fira de Santa LlĂşcia (Christmas Market at the Cathedral)

Dates: 28 November – 23 December 2025
Location: Pla de la Seu (Barcelona Cathedral plaza, Gothic Quarter)
Description: Fira de Santa Llúcia is Barcelona’s oldest and most emblematic Christmas market, dating back to 1786. In the romantic setting in front of the Cathedral, over 280 wooden stalls bustle with holiday spirit. Shoppers can find all manner of Nativity figures, from handcrafted wooden Holy Family sets to the famous “caganer” figurines (cheeky Catalan characters). Stalls sell Christmas trees, wreaths, mistletoe, and the popular “caga Tió” logs (smiling wooden logs that children feed in anticipation of gifts). You’ll also discover artisanal jewelry, winter accessories, candles, and holiday sweets. Weekends often feature traditional carol singing and maybe a band of folk musicians wandering the market. Visiting Santa Llúcia is a cherished Barcelona tradition to kick off the festive season.

Insider Tips:

  • The market can get very crowded in the evenings. For a calmer experience (and easier browsing), go on a weekday morning.
  • Don’t know what a caga TiĂł is? Look for the big tent with a giant TiĂł log – kids can hit it with a stick while singing a song (an interactive fun area of the market).
  • Combine your visit with a peek inside the Cathedral cloister to see the geese, and check out the life-size pessebre (Nativity scene) often set up in Plaça Sant Jaume. It’s a short walk from the market and is a modern artistic interpretation that changes each year.

New Year’s Eve “NiT de Cap d’Any” at Montjuïc

Date: 31 December 2025
Location: Av. Reina Maria Cristina, MontjuĂŻc (near Magic Fountain)
Description: Barcelona rings in the New Year with a spectacular street party and midnight show at the foot of Montjuïc. Crowds gather by Plaça d’Espanya, facing the Palau Nacional and Magic Fountain, for a public countdown event organized by the city. The NiT de Cap d’Any typically features live music or DJ performances from about 9:30 PM, building excitement until the clock approaches midnight. The climax is a dazzling fireworks and light display, often coordinated with music and the cascading fountains – an unforgettable urban pyrotechnics show against the iconic backdrop of Montjuïc. As the clock strikes twelve, church bells ring and Catalans follow the tradition of quickly eating 12 grapes for 12 lucky months. The atmosphere is joyous and family-friendly, and after the show, many continue the celebration at bars, clubs, or home gatherings into the early hours of the new year.

Insider Tips:

  • Arrive by 11 PM to get a decent viewing spot. The area in front of the Magic Fountain fills up, but you can also see fireworks from further down Avenida Maria Cristina or even from Paral·lel.
  • The metro usually runs all night on New Year’s Eve, which is super convenient – expect trains and stations to be busy just after midnight as people disperse.
  • Bring your own grapes (12 per person) to partake in the midnight grape ritual – supermarkets sell small tins of peeled grapes just for this occasion, or you can pack fresh ones. Don’t forget some Cava (Catalan sparkling wine) – it’s tradition to toast the New Year with a glass!
